Individual counseling

As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor I use verbal dialogue as a way to allow you to express your concerns and thoughts in a caring and safe environment. I provide a safe and comfortable environment for you to tell your story.  In addition to verbal dialogue, we may also use the following techniques:

Art Therapy

Art Therapy is a method of expression that allows you to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas that at times can be difficult to put into words. Various art materials are used such as colored pencils, markers, and paints. This method is NOT always used in the session, but can be used if you are open to it.  I am there to assist and help every step of the way.
No art talent is needed to participate! And never any judgment!

Addiction

Through my experience with working with those experiencing addiction issues, I have come to find that the addiction, in whatever form that it takes,  is the symptom and other issues lie underneath this method of coping. I attempt to work with you to explore your reasons for coping in this way and at the same time find ways to encourage your recovery in the now.

Grief and Loss

Loss can take on all shapes, sizes and forms. My father died last year. I am discovering how he affected my life and my family’s life as we move through grief.

I cannot imagine living without Ernie, my Jack Russell. But I know that some day he will not be with me. He is now 13 years old. Pet loss can affect us more than we ever thought that it could.

I am now selling my childhood home. My parents lived in this house for 64 years. This icon of stability will soon be a thing of the past.

Along with these, other losses can affect us as well, the loss of children in our lives, whether they be our own children or are related to us in other ways. The loss of a marriage, possessions, a job, a dream, the loss of how you thought your life was in the present or in the past, then find out your perceptions and memories are changed by the more recently acquired facts. Any loss that you are experiencing is reason for discussion and process.

Trauma

Through caring and support I incorporate a method that reviews any trauma that you may have experienced in your past. I believe trauma is defined as any experience that has adversely affected your life in the present and/or in the past. There is nothing too small.

These methods for healing are presented in a slow and nurturing manner. Techniques are taught to you to allow you to learn how to calm yourself in times of possible anxiety. These techniques are used throughout the process of therapy providing a safe and nurturing environment to process the event or events that may have occurred. You are always in control of your treatment.
